The Route

Oh, The Places I’ll go

I put the Pacific Coast Highway on my bucket list in 2018 while I was on a motorcycle trip to Texas to see my sister and nieces. I was inspired by an Arkansas man in his 80s. He was admiring my bike at McDonalds where I was taking a morning coffee break. He then tapped me on the shoulder while I was in line for lunch in a different McDonald’s 100 miles away! I thought he may be following me to steal my Indian Scout. Instead, he invited me to join him and his wife for lunch and talk motorcycles. He told me he had ridden in every state except Hawaii. So I asked him the obvious question: What was the most memorable ride? What should be on my bucket list? He did not hesitate and answered - the Pacific Coast Highway. It was a wonderful lunch with that fellow and his wife. I burnt hour of day light, but learned a lot. As we were leaving he had one more piece of advice. He said get started on that bucket list as soon as you can - you can’t ride for ever.

That was the genesis of the Double Nickel Ride. I made a video that outlines the route for the trip. It is only 8 minutes long but I think it will help you understand the big picture.
