What should we speak of When we are old as you? when we shall hear The rain and wind beat dark December? how, In this our pinching cave, shall we discourse The freezing hours away?
— William Shakespeare.. and later Kevin Irwin freezing in the rain in Iowa City

Day two started with cool temperatures, sunny skies, and puffy clouds in Valparaiso, Indiana. I knew that this nice weather was not for me! I saw the forecast for my camping stop in Iowa City, IA and it was full of rain. I realized that if I hustled, I could beat the heavy rain to the camp ground. So, I revised my travel plans.

I wanted get to Iowa City, IA by 3pm. I revised my ride plan and opted to use I-80 out of Joliet rather than the scenic and slower US-6. I used a very busy US-30 to get to Joliet, IL.

I put on my rain gear and started the race to beat the weather. To keep things moving I fueled myself when I fueled the bike. I also used rest areas along I-80 to recycle all water I was drinking.

I ran head along into rain 50 miles east of Iowa City. It was manageable and my rain gear and full face helmet did the job.

I got the tent sent up and made it inside ahead of the heavy rain. I am predicting a long night. Besides the rain, the KOA campground is next to the highway. When the wind blows just right I can smell the RV dumping station. The joys of camping.

Really nothing significant today. It was a 334 mile hustle today. I did enjoy a hot dehydrated dinner, an orange, and a chocolate bar for dinner.

It looks like that rain is going to keep me company to Sioux Falls, SD tomorrow. I will sleep warm and dry in a hotel.
